Birthdays, Shopping and WoW Madness

Sunday was my birthday. No, you don't get to know my age because I no longer age past 29 :P Saturday I went out with several friends and had Don Pablos for dinner. Afterwards we went to the AMC to see Failure to Launch. It was a cute little movie, but I think I liked the subplotted characters MUCH better than I did the main characters and their story. They were much more interesting, and had a good dynamic to them. And, I really want to get a gun to shoot a few birds too. Grar!

Sunday I spent loafing around the house reaquainting myself with WarCraft III since I can now play it on Pixel. Then, I got to thinking. Why just play WarCraft III when I now have a computer that meets all the requirements for World of WarCraft? I wasn't feeling like leaving the house on Sunday, so the loafing continued all through the night. On Monday, though, I went shopping.

I got up early in the morning on Monday and took a 2 hour shopping spree for myself to get stuff for my birthday. Most of what I got was supplemented by all those loverly gift cards people gave me for Christmas, so it made the shopping experience VERY pleasant and more enjoyable than they usually are for me. I hate shopping, you see. Despise it really.

My shopping adventures started off with a trip to Borders, since one of the things I discovered was my Borders gift card from michaelmauzey from last year. I forgot I hadn't spent it, and checking it out Sunday evening prior to my shopping proved that I still had funds available. Yay. So, since bluekitsune got me hooked recently on books by Diana Wynne Jones involving her Crestomanci Series (a gift from her at Xmas) I figured I'd stop there first to see if I could find any more books. If I didn't I had other plans for the gift card. Finding books by that author proved to be more difficult than anticipated. While Borders did have one book by her, it took manually searching the stacks than searching the computer to do it. The computer had NO information on her. Zilch. But, the Young Adults section did happen to have Unexpected Magic and so I snatched that up faster than a frog eats a fly. While perusing the store for her book though, I did manage to find something else that caught my eye, and that was a book called the Iron Tree by Cecilia Dart-Thorton. I have never read this author before, but the cover seems interesting. I know, I know, never judge a book by a cover, but er.... that's exactly how I find new books that I actually WANT to read -- a cover and/or jacket that is interesting enough picture wise that says, Psst! Over here. No really, over here. Come look at me. So, it and I had a brief like exchange, and well, it was the first book in my cart in the store :) My backup plan was to get Buffy Season Six if I couldn't find the Wynne Book, but since I was already there, and I wanted Buffy anyway, it just happened to make it's way to the register and come home with me. Witty punning and killing of demons and vampires always cheer me up, and since I've needed lots of cheering up for one reason or another over the last few weeks, this was a good buy :)

My second stop was at Best Buy. You know, that whole World of WarCraft thing right? Well, I just had to stop by and see if they had it, and conveniently enough Bowie Town Center has a Best Buy in the direction I needed to go to get back home. Right, so.... Entering Best Buy was an experience in self-control. There are lots of toys and goodies there I could possibly get for myself, but I didn't. I was good. Instead, I went to the computer software rack and looked for WoW to see if they had a Mac version I could bring home. They did. Then, I went back to the computer goods section to see if I could obtain my second objective, which was to purchase a USB mouse, either wireless or not. I found a nice, cheap mini mouse that was wireless. So, both objectives obtained, I went off to my third and final store for the day.... So here, I used the Best Buy gift card that I'd gotten for Christmas.

Which was Bed, Bath and Beyond. For the longest time I wanted to get a feather/pillow top for my bed, which is a futon. Now, there's nothing wrong with the futon, but a little extra snuggly bed comfort always goes a long way. I went to see what sales they had on such things, because last time I checked they were insanely priced. Luck was with me that day, as they were indeed on sale. I also looked for some pillow shams since the BWI Ramada Inn stole both my pillow and my light green striped sham out of my room last year. OH, how I was HOT with them for that! Grar! I found the colors I needed with a single sham in it fir $19.99. But wait! What was this? There was a sale on two shams, of the exact same color, in different packaging, for $14.99. Now, my economical self was like -- Self? It's better for you to get two for less, and so I did. I consider myself VERY lucky for that find. Now, all of my pillows can match my nice, 320 thread count sheets. Yay! This is happiness for me.

I travelled back home, plopped Buffy into the DVD player, squeeed when I discovered season 6 has: Once More With Feeling (the Buffy Musical) and started uploading WoW to Pixel. Yay! I played all day Monday and most of last evening. I am totally sucked into WoWCrack now. Irritated at some of the people who like to steal kills. Happy for some of the people who were right off very nice and friendly and helped me through some quests. It feels like the old days, back when I was on LegendMUD, except, without the whole experience ripping your soul down to nothing when you die sort of thing. Thank goodness for that. I now have a Level 10 Paladin, who's working to become a Blacksmith and Miner. I promise though, I won't get so sucked in that I'll ignore everyone. The newness will wear off after a bit of time. But, Yay!

And so, that's how my weekend and week have been so far. How about you? :)

Thanks. I think it really depends on what Realm you're on if she can help or not. I'm playing on Staghelm since that's where some friends said they were playing, but I don't know their characters. I'd be interested in playing some time with her just to have someone friendly around to help out and all ;)

Her reaction when this was mentioned: Talk about a small world :)

SSB and I play on a text based game called Firan. It's an original MUSH created by a few local friends of ours.

However, needed to hack and slash a bit. Legally :) So, er, yeah. WoW called to me.

I play on Staghelm since that's where most of the people I know play. My character there is Elisiana. I'd welcome company any time if you're around that server. :)

And nice to meetcha!

*laugh* I looked last night, and sure enough i *do* have a character there (*cough* that I never play). She's a lvl 2 NE warrior named Rowenar.

I'll try to remember to play her, but I'm trying to get Bevek or Binne to 60...considering I've been playing as long as I have been and have never had a character get to 60, it's almost depressing ;)

Welcome to the addiction of World of Warcrack. What server are you on? I've got a few characters floating around out there.

Oh, and happy birthday too. You're 25 right? :-)

Yay for birthdays!

I loafed around on Sunday, too. Friday I gave into BestBuy temptation, & bought HP:GoF and a few other movies that were on sale.
