Opening a Can of Worms...

I have decided that there are not enough challenges in my life. By challenges, I do not mean life’s little quirks that are thrown my way out of the blue. I’ve had enough of those, thank you. What I mean is that there’s really not anything out there to push me past my limits – to motivate me to do other things, and to get out and enjoy life more.

I’ve been sitting here, wracking my brains for new things to experience, especially things a person can do alone, since currently I /am/ alone – as in, not a couple.

I think, in part, that’s why going on a cattle drive next year seems like a good idea. It’ll be challenging. It’ll be a new experience. I’m sure to LEARN new things, and do new things that I’ve never done before. Riding horses is just an extra bonus.

Do you have any suggestions for things that would be fun, challenging and expose me to new things?

Post here!

I don't know how coordinated you are, but how about contradancing? Around here it's typically low-cost, doesn't require you to bring a partner, is a great way to exercise, and you get to know new people to boot. I enjoyed it greatly when I was living on my own for a while. Plus sometimes you get to watch some very, ahem, interesting people. :)

Are there any courses (like, academic) that you've wanted to take but haven't?

I've been toying more and more with considering taking a creative writing course. I think if I had to pay money to write again, I'd get back into the groove.

I have a skeletal outline of something I desperately want to start writing, but I haven't been able to motivate myself beyond a few notes here and there.

Really, that's the ultimate challenge, but it's more for myself than anyone else and I'm not certain I'm up to the task of writing a book just for myself, even if occasionally the characters nag at me to be written.

Well, what if you didn't look at it as "writing a book." What if you tried to look at it as "writing what the characters want you to say in little bits and pieces?"

I think creative writing would be great for you. It'd be a challenge, one you don't need anyone but yourself to do.
