Legacy Chase Continued

So, it’s official. I bought the ticket to go to the Legacy Chase last evening, which is held at Shawan Downs. I bought the Steeplechase Ticket which was the same one that adamdray purchased last year, so we’ll be in relatively the same area. I’m really very excited and I’m now praying to the weather Gods that be that the day stays clear and sunny like the 10 day forecast at the Weather Channel’s site says it will be – at least for now.

Last year was bunches of fun. I went with stephdray, her husband Adam and bluekitsune. We gathered together at Steph and Adam’s house, went shopping for picnic goodies, packed them in the picnic basket, and then went on our way to Shawan Downs.

The grounds are very, very hilly – which wasn’t something we entirely expected. We gathered our stuff together and started on the long trek to find a seat near the racetrack, which is a turf track. We had to be very, very careful, because essentially we were walking through a working field, and the surrounding area had steep hills and lots of holes in the ground. Some of us wore sandals which made things tricky.

Eventually, we found the perfect seat, right behind the last jump. We were high enough up on the hill that we could see the surrounding area and nearly the entire track. In fact, we were in the perfect spot to see the number 2 horse in the second race spaz out on his rider, go through a fence and take a tumble over him. For some reason, the owner and the rider decided to race the horse anyway, even though clearly the horse was in a dangerous frame of mind. We were also in the perfect spot to see that same horse fall over the very last jump right before the finish and cause two other horses to take tumbles afterwards. It was the only excitement of the day of that kind, thankfully.

It was a nice atmosphere, the people were friendly, and I got to meet a little old lady whose family has been in the steeplechasing business for generations, from her grandfather down to her grandson. She was very proud to be there that day. Who knows, perhaps I’ll get to run into her again on Saturday?

This year I’ll be going with Steph and Adam again. Having them want to go too cemented the decision to buy the ticket. We’re also dragging along usurpingivylj. This will be her maiden race experience. We may try to find one other person to go along with us, but that depends on how many people we think we can stuff into one car. The ticket I purchased is by the carload.

All that’s left is finalizing the little details – where to meet, what we’ll bring to eat, where to sit (though I prefer that little space by the last fence again), etc, etc. etc.

Saturday promises to be a good day. I’m very much looking forward to this weekend. It also helps that it’ll be, likely, a 4 day weekend for me, as I had originally taken off Friday and Monday for going to Las Vegas and now I’m not going. I’ll be using what I can of the spare days to go car shopping and hopefully finalize all the arrangements/details and what not, and hopefully be with a new car. Hopefully. Not going to hold my breath on that just yet -- but at least the insurance quote I got made me breathe somewhat easier about getting the new car.

*L* You make me sound like a cruiseliner (maiden voyage? Hee.) - I don't think I'm actually sydicated anymore, strangely, unless there's some trick I don't know about. My LJ is usurpingivylj, even though I never, like...log on. Hee.

Isn't it supposed to rain on Saturday?

Bite thy tongue! It's supposed be mostly sunny with a high of 63. Dress warm ;) Sunday it's supposed to rain and only 30% chance, which means not very likely.

I'll bring an umbrella and my leather :) 30% is still a pretty decent chance - haven't you ever seen Laws of Attraction with hubba hubba James Bond in it?

Oh, duh. This has been one heck of a week. End of the month at work and then some other stuff, of course, has just been killing my braincells left and right!
