Emotional Lows

I'm generally a hearty person, but I have ups and downs with the best of them. This week is not starting out so great for me. I'm in one of my low periods. There are a number of things that factor into this; the 12 hour days for work and the fact that I've been winnowing down my caffeine intake chief among them.

I've been listless and uninterested in lots of things lately, and most of the the things that bring me joy simply don't right now. It's a period of the yucky mehs. It needs to go away, along with the instability of my emotions right now. Or, it could simply be that May has passed and we're all that much closer to the dreaded July.

I've been toying around with what to do with my vacation days this year. Part of them will be used for FiranCON - which, even in my emotional roller coaster, I'm greatly looking forward to. In the past, it has always energized me and made me feel good. But, there's still a week left for me to use after that - and I've no plans to go anywhere or travel. I just can't afford it this year.

I've some ideas, ranging from just taking a week off to relax to using them for one of the vacation holidays - so I can extend my vacation just a tiny bit longer. I don't know what I want to do yet - but I do know a week long rest would be good, both for mind and body.

I've weaned myself down before. But that was years ago at a crap job where I started drinking soda again. What I did was switched from soda to iced tea. Part of it is I want to get away from High Fructose Corn Syrup (which they're now labeling as "corn sugar" and is still just as bad for you as HFCS).

So, I've been cutting back drastically on how much soda I drink. When I go out to eat, I pick iced tea instead of soda. When I go to work in the morning, I bring in a 32 oz container of water, which I usually refill - and get the "suggested" 64 oz of water a day. I drink 1 cup of iced tea for lunch and one for dinner. And usually, that's it.
