Graduation and FiranCON

Out of all my nieces and nephews, my youngest, Melissa, will be graduating on May 27th. That's the same day that FiranCon starts. I'm somewhat conflicted, because I'd really like to go see her graduate. It'll be the last chance I get to see any niece or nephew do such a thing. But at the same time I want to spend Friday night with everyone at the Con. I have lots of thinking to do about this before making an absolute decision. I suppose I could check in early, since I have the day off anyway and the hotel is near my apartment, and then drop by the graduation for a few hours and drive back. It's just lots of driving and sitting and more driving that I hadn't counted on. We'll see. Why do High Schools schedule such events on Holiday weekends when people go away? It's silly.

On that note, I need to make the final arrangements for food organization for Con. I have all of the volunteers that I need - I just need to tell them who is doing what. Thankfully none of them have to be locals to figure out where to get pizza and chicken, but they will need to do a little bit of footwork on their part in finding where the restaurants are. I think I can help out with this a little bit. I just have to remember to see where the websites are. My advice to them will be to call as early in advance the day prior as possible, or to do some organizational work prior to the Con. That way it'll be much easier. My word of advice for anyone doing the chicken run.... don't just show up and say that you need 4-5 50 piece chicken buckets without calling ahead. I've done it twice that way and er.... it's not fun and there's lots of waiting involved. Call ahead!

Pizza in Hanover
I live in Hanover right around the corner from that hotel. I can tell you *not* to get pizza from "Wings Things and More" which is a local pizza joint. They have fairly good pizza, and are reasonably priced, but they need a visit from the health inspector! Once we got a pizza from them with RANCID pepperoni on it, and another time, there was an insect baked between the sauce and cheese. *gag*

Cantina Mama Lucia is ok (but more pricey), and there is always domino's and pizza boli.

Just my local two cents ;)

Seeing as I'm also graduating this year (June 9th! :-D ), and am also attending FiranCon, I would say...either go to the hotel, then out to the graduation, then back to the hotel, or just forego the first going to the hotel and go straight to the graduation, and then to the hotel. But, point is, I think your niece would probably really love to have you at her graduation, and it's also, as you said, the last time you can see any niece/nephews graduate. So...just my .02 cents. :-)

I would have to say I agree with jon_ezra and suggest that you see the graduation. Particularly as it is the last of your nephews'/neices' graduations. :)
