Shop Till I Drop....

This weekend included a flurry of activity for me. This was a weekend of girly things to do; shopping mostly and I hate shopping in general.

Saturday I met stephdray at her house and we proceeded to Owings Mills Towne Center, so I could go get my ears pierced. Claire’s was the shop of choice since Steph had gotten her ears pierced there a few weeks ago. Looking over the list of choices they had, I chose a pair of 14k gold pink daisy earrings.

The clerk was trying to help us out when this very rude customer started nattering at him about how she needed to be waited on right then and there because she had to leave, like RIGHT NOW. The clerk was a very nice, very patient man and tried to tell her to please wait by the counter and he’d be right there, but she just wasn’t getting it. Steph started to say something to her, but got cut off and it very nearly ended up in a yelling match between the clerk and the rude customer. It didn’t though, it ended well enough. However, while I wasn’t nervous about getting my ears pierced, I WAS nervous about them getting pierced by a potentially upset clerk. Fortunately, that wasn’t a problem. He came back, very calmly did his work (though he was irritated) and took care of me.

I became a spectacle at the mall, getting my ears pierced. I was very patient with everything going on around me. The people there were impressed with how professional the clerk was being with sterilizing everything, and they watched as I got my ears pierced. They were surprised I didn’t flinch at all. Not once. Steph wondered if I was alright with everyone watching and I just sorta shrugged my shoulders and said I was a drama major, all was well ;) The clerk sorta perked up at that and mentioned that he’d been an understudy for Goofy at Walt Disney World, and we chatted a little bit about that. In no time at all, it was over and Steph and I went about shopping for new earrings.

The poor clerk was just having a bad day though. While we were shopping I learned everyone else had called out “sick” on him (it was an absolutely gorgeous Saturday) and he was the only one there. One of the girls there commented that maybe if he were a straight man that things wouldn’t have been a problem there or some such. Very rude, and very uncalled for. He took it with grace, however. For my part, I tried to be the most pleasant customer I could be, since there was really nothing more I could do, thanking him for his help and continued aid with our shopping. In the end, Steph and I picked out several sets of earrings, then went off to find lunch. After lunch, we went back to their house and chatted a bit before I sent Steph off to the drudgery of editing the LARP sheets for FiranCon. I was going to do some more shopping, but I decided to go home for the evening. I was tired, but had lots of fun.

Sunday, I had planned to do stuff for FiranCon. Since the cut-off was Friday for booking rooms at our special rate, I decided to go ahead and check all the confirmation numbers I had with the hotel. I was going to do that in person, but ended up doing it over the phone. Got all rooms confirmed, names confirmed, etc, and so everything is good – so far – as far as the hotel is set. I will check next Monday to see about room numbers so I know where people will be in advance.

I had also planned to do some clothing shopping for FiranCon, so I have some new stuff to wear for that weekend and in general. I haven’t been clothing shopping since just before I moved to Nancy’s place last year. It was time and desperately needed. I am quick to stain new clothing, rendering it unusable for most functions except for home wear. Bleh. So, my goal was to find something inexpensive that I liked and could use in multi-fashions, that fit and looked nice on me. Four hours of shopping and all I could manage to find were two shirts and a pair of shorts.

Um? Yes. A piercing gun. I could not imagine getting my ears pierced any other way....

... what way did you think he did it?

A needle.

Although I should point out that all 5 times I've had my ears pierced (long story), I've had a gun, and it's not a big deal. But were I to do it again, I'd see a piercer.

Yeah -- having a piercing done with a surgical needle rather than a gun is less painful and more hygenic, but that being said, my ears were done with a gun and turned out fine.

When I got the nose done, however, I wouldn't have dreamed of going any place but a piercing shop. Then again, good luck fitting a piercing gun in your nose... ;)

Anyway, congratulations on the earrings. What did you pick out to have put in there? :)

Yay. Shopping! Yes. I need a good fashion consultant. And, shopping with the Seeester is fun too. She helped greatly last year with the Con shopping.

I am planning on going back out to do the shop-a-thon this coming weekend, because I barely touched the $300.00 budget I gave myself for clothing for this year. I only go clothing shopping about once or twice a year because I hate it so much.
