Strange Mail Day....

Every day when I get home I check the mail. It's important I do this because otherwise I'll get yelled at by my father for not. Our mailbox is located a quarter of a mile away from our house, because we live in the middle of a field. My father is paranoid that if we fail to get our mail every day that someone will go rooting for it. He's also paranoid that if we leave our cars unlocked they'll get stolen. Um. Right. Sure. We live in the middle of a 200 acre field where our closest neighbors are about 1/2 mile away and the most houses in our vincinity numbers to oh, about 7 or 8.

Anyway. I got the mail today and there had to be at least 20-25 pieces of mail! So much! I wonder if the post office has been holding our mail back. Or, if everyone decided at once that we suddenly needed lots of mail. Whatevah. It was just really, really strange.

On a happier note, my friend Jackie McCaulley is getting married. Yay for her! Of course, I haven't seen her for.... ever. She lives in New York. Always has. That attributes to part of why I haven't seen her.

See, her family and mine used to go camping in Crisfield Maryland every year, at least up until I was at least 13 or 14. They'd go to St. Janes Island State Park, and her Uncle Butch and Aunt Amy would bring their boat, the Melanie Sue, down every year, with their own family, and then Jackie's immediate family would come. My parents met them there before I was born. Going camping in Crisfield was the one thing we had to look forward to every year.

Anyway, we stopped camping there. They did too. Mostly because Butch hurt his back. He wasn't expected to walk again, but he does. But one thing lead to another... and well we still don't go camping.

I remember I used to have a crush on her brother, Melvin. He was much older than me though. Kid crushes. Hee! He's also married now. He got married a few years ago. I regret that I missed going to his wedding.

I'm thinking about going to Jackie's. It'd be nice to see her again. But, I'm not sure I relish driving to mid-state New York with my father. That's the big mitigating factor.
