Week at a Glance!

This week went by as something of a blur for me. Maybe it has something to do with being jobless that the days just sorta seem to meld into each other, or it could be that my PS2 that I've finally ordered has arrived. Yay! I got Dance Dance Revolution Max, a refurbished PS2 and the game pads for DDR last week - though the game pads did not come until later in this week.

I'm afraid to try DDR out at the farm in Centreville, simply because this house is over 100 years old and well.... it's partially off the ground, at least 3 feet, and the floors are not the studiest of things. Meaning to say, if you jump up and down in a room /everything/ shakes. This is not good for DDR enjoyment, especially when one has a 7 foot large screen television that no longer works sitting in the living room, because one's father stubbornly refuses to return it to Sears (lifetime guarantee!) to get it replaced or have someone come out to fix it. But, oh well.

I did decide to go home to the farm in Centreville on Sunday, early. I left the house around 3 pm. I just couldn't stand being in Glen Burnie any longer, so I packed up some clothes and left. I knew my father would be glad to see me since it was Father's Day anyway. I called first, before leaving, so he knew to expect me. He asked my why I was coming back to Cville and I told him why, but also told him because of Father's Day. On the way home I stopped by Food Lion and decided to splurge a bit. I bought him a Carvel Ice Cream Cake - Love & Laughter, Sinfully Chocolate. Mmmmm. Very good!

Monday I worked on getting the PS2 working. No matter what combination I tried, between the various DVD players and VCR's that we've got hooked to the television, nothing would work. I finally plugged in the cables to the VCR and was able to get a picture, but no sound. My father came home from working on his other farm in Greensboro and had me go through it all over again. All the while he was cursing up and down that I'd been had by whoever sold me the machine from Ebay. I told him I'd take care of the matter and figure things out.

I also sent the following email to Darrick to let him know that I'll be having House Guests for part of the weekend and next week for the 4th:

Fourth of July weekend is FiranCon weekend. I am offering crash space to at least one person on the night of the 1st and might offer crash space to one or two other people the day before or after con, so they can get their flights. I'm letting you know so you're aware of what's going on.

His response to me was.... GROWL!:

That should work out seeing as I will also be having several people over that weekend. Perhaps next time we can co-ordinate this so one might ask the other before they just automatically invite people over or have them stay...I figured that you would not be around that weekend due to Firancon... By the way, now that we have a real kitchen table, need to know where can move yours to.

I'm not even going to go into how angry his response made me. I have yet to respond to him, really. I want to. I'm going to, but there are things I want to do first before I do.

I agreed to go with my father to Spences Bazaar in Dover, DE. It's a flea market. My mother used to set up there every Tuesday and Friday when they were open when she was still alive, during my high school years. He spent most of the morning pointing out who we used to have a stand next to in Laurel, DE, at Shores Largest Flea Market and Johnny Janosik's Flea Market. I did NOT remember any of these people and just humored him, smiling and nodding. We went into the Amish market there and go ham HUGE ham sandwiches for lunch, then we left.

You have to understand that for at least 8-10 years of my young life I was held host hostage by my parents every weekend while they went set up at flea markets. It was their 'business'. They had tax books, a license and everything. Not that I'm complaining. Much of the money they made put me through college. But, OH! how I missed my Saturday Morning cartoons!!!! The news networks had taken over Saturday mornings by the time my parents hung up their Flea Marketing hat.

Afterwards, we went to Dover Pools so he could get water tested for our pool. It has the never ending, never going away algae problem. I wish he'd just give up, drain it, clean it out and refill it. That'd clear up much of his problem, but he's stubborn and doesn't listen (even if it /was/ his own idea) and is keeping on going. I think he just wants to waste his money so he has something to complain about.

Then we went to Best Buy. Big mistake! I spent lots of money there. Money I don't particularly have. And on what? My new PS2. I ended up getting a game called Drakan. Very good game, so far, even if I am stuck currently at one part in it. It's an RPG - which are the types of games I prefer, questing and such. I also bought new cables, both kinds, to see if that wasn't my problem with the PS2, and 2 memory cards. The cables, as I suspected, /were/ the problem. It works now. Yay!

The Rest of the Week

Has consisted of me sitting either in front of this computer doing stuff on Firan or Cuendillar, my own game, or sitting in front of the TV either watching it or playing Drakan on the PS2. It's a hard life, I know. Woe is me! Though, I am enjoying what time I do have off, even if I'm not getting paid for it. But, oh, how I want to be back at work again. I'm waiting on a temp job to get back to me, so I can start working again. It'd be in Odenton, MD - but that means I could stay in Glen Burnie full time now (despite the hardships I'll have there) until I can at least get out of the situation there or resolve it in some fashion. I decided not to go there this weekend because, well, I just didn't feel like being in a tense situation this weekend, not like I was last weekend. I can't always avoid them, but this weekend I decided to. I want to be well rested before FiranCon, after all!

The days are nice and cool, so that means that the summer is actually enjoyable to me this year. I hate hot heat. I do not do well in it at all. I thank the powers that be that I have not yet really needed to put in my air conditioner, and on the days that one was needed I was able to endure without. I don't want to add that extra cost/burden on my father since I'm not sure how long I'll be here, and besides, I don't feel like putting the thing back into the window. Attempting it last year was enough!

So, it's Sunday now, and here I am sitting in front of my computer and writing this update. I'm very much looking forward to next week. Wednesday I'll be meeting Zelva from Firan in Chestertown, where she'll be staying with her Uncle before FiranCon. Thursday, I'll be picking up Kachina from the train station and taking her to Pia's house. From there, several of us are going out to dinner. Later Thursday night, I'll be picking up Ishani's player, and she'll be staying the night at my house. Then, Friday, I'll be picking up Urtenia at the train station, and toting she and Ishani to the hotel for FiranCon. Once at the hotel, several of us will be going out to lunch - as part of our own private Meet & Greet before the rest of the masses begin to arrive.

I am soooooo very looking forward to FiranCon, even if I initially was dreading everything. I've explained as much as I can about that feeling, and even if it was an irrational feeling, it was very real. But, that feeling is gone now, and only the anxiety of being able to meet and see everyone again remains. Of course, I will still have my moments when I hide from everyone - I get overloaded far too easily in crowded situations. What can I say? I'm an introvert to the core, and sometimes crowds overwhelm me. But, all in all I can already see how much fun I'll have, and it'll be good seeing old friends and catching up and seeing new friends for the first time!

Hi There
I've no idea who you are, but I like your breezy writing style, and as you added me to your friends list, and we have several LJ-friends in common and a few shared interests, I'm adding you back.

Meeting new people is never a bad thing, you know?

However, my LJ isn't used much. Most of what I write goes from my blog to mochachai or from my bookblog to zenitopia

Re: Hi There
I /think/ I know who you are, so I took a chance and added you to my LJ. You have the name of a person who has an alt that has a character who's son I sponsor. If you know what I'm talking about without giving everything away, then you know who I am :)
